WiFi vs. Mobile Data:

Understanding the Source

While both WiFi and mobile data deliver the internet to your fingertips, they operate through different infrastructures.

  • WiFi (Local Connectivity): WiFi relies on a physical connection to an Internet Service Provider (ISP). This connection enters your home through a modem, which translates the signal, and a router, which broadcasts that signal wirelessly. To use WiFi, your device must be within range of the router and have the feature enabled.

  • Mobile Data (Cellular Connectivity): Mobile data bypasses the home router entirely, connecting your device directly to cellular towers. As long as you are within a service provider’s network range, you can access the internet and make calls. While convenient for travel, mobile data is often subject to stricter data caps than home WiFi.
